More Than Karate
documentary shorts

In collaboration with a local karate dojo in Maryland, our crew of three people shot two documentary shorts.

As director and editor for both, I coordinated the shoot schedule, interviewed Sensei Stanley and Sensei Robert, and edited in DaVinci Resolve with input from the cinematographer and producer.

While the docs are stylistically different, they both emphasize the meaning of legacy in teaching traditional Okinawan karate in the US.

More Than Karate is interview-based and a general introduction of their dojo.

More Than A Grand Opening is an observational doc of their second dojo’s ribbon cutting with the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce. It was especially gratifying to capture certain moments unfolding organically that night. (Shot on Canon EOS-C200B)
